FS: '73 Penske Sunoco RSR Replica/Tribute

This car was the subject of a Randy Wells Excellence Article - May 2011. A barn-find with a couple of nice early 911's is the reason for considering selling, otherwise not in financial duress and certainly not tired of the
grin this car puts on my face out in the countryside on early Sunday Mornings.

$135,000. Interesting Trades & Cash considered. Some may think this a bargain & some may think it's crazy - Please don't turn this into a discussion about the merits of Tributes/Replicas. This is just the dollar amount that this car is worth to me. I also have the original front hood from the '73 Penske RSR 24 hour car. Buyer would have option to purchase. George Follmer signed brass plaque in front of the fuel cell & sale would include a really nice framed Randy Wells photo print also signed by George Follmer.

Many hours of research & fabrication along with many discussions with Gib Bosworth were involved in this build. There is way to much to list, but the basics are:

Base Tub was a nice 73T - purchased from Gib.
    3.0 Twin Plug
    JB Racing Distributor
    EBS Reconditioned Cylinders
    J&E pistons - 10.5-1
    Cross Drilled Crank
    Swiss Replica Hi Butterfly
    Sigfried Thoms RSR oil tank
    Stratton Duck Tail
Custom Getty design front hood (balsa inserts)
Early Fuel Safe Fuel Cell - with fabricated dry break fills
Early 930 Calipers front & rear
    Front 9x15's Built by Harvey
    Rear 11 x 15's Original Fuchs
    Mike Moore Heinzmann fire system
Custom Tarrett RSR sway bars 22mm front and rear
Bilstein RSR Coil over struts front & rear
    Steel RSR flares
Early Thermo Jet Rally Heater for defrost (Gel Cell battery in smugglers box for power)
    Custom buiilt adjustable Rev Limiter
    Door number illumination light
    Cibie Oscar running lights

Happy to answer questions & send more photos of the build process.
    Thanks,
    Sam Gassel

Sam, good luck for your sale!
Your car was a true inspiration for me and if Trudi was not in my garage, I would surely buy your wonderful RSR. I think it's a real bargain for what you did

Probably old news but this car will be auctioned supposedly at Monterey next week with a seven figure reserve.

Hopefully your phone will ring after that!
