    Fresh air vent paint finish

    Refinishing the frame and grille for the fresh air vent on my '66 912. I think we've established that they were painted black on the early cars (http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...l-alloy-finish), but...

    Satin? Flat? Glossy? I'm leaning toward satin, like other parts on the car.

    FWIW, I believe these particular parts to be original to the car. The screen on mine appears to originally have had a black finish deposited on the metal, like an anodized finish. The alloy frame appears to have been painted originally. A previous owner repainted these parts in flat black... with a brush.

    My 66 302562 has a stainless or alloy fresh air vent. After reading the post referenced above it is unclear to me at which point they started delivering cars with black frames. I would be interested in finding out, as my car appears to have some early items inconsistent with its VIN. Fixed shock tower with factory repair sheet metal cap etc.

    How about the body area behind the grille? When were they body color and when were they black? I'm restoring a 67S and have not received any definite answer.
