Looking for a nice late 80s 560 SL manual if possible but will look at any year with a stick. Have tried MB World and Benzforum already, thought maybe some of you Porsche chaps would have a nice one lying around.

I am not sure they made a US market R107 with a manual - but you might find an import

there is a pristine low mile automatic at Valley Imports in Fargo, on the showroom floor. They are a Porsche/ Audi/ Mercedes distributor and used car operation.
Red in color, appears to be all original and no winter driven miles. I think it had less than 20,000 miles the salesman told me. But its not cheap.

You're not likely to find a manual, but check the classifieds at mercedesheritage.com

There were no US model 560sl sold in the states. Any manual trans cars will be ROW and not likely a 560. The 560 was a US model only for the most part. You are right in looking for a clean one though, even with the auto box the are NO slouch, and they have really decent a-c, abs etc. EXCELLENT cars. The late 107s along with the 126 chassis sedans/coupes, were without a doubt MBs zenith. Since then, a long ugly slide towards....well. keith

Stacy,
I have two 560SLs and think they are beautiful and all of the 107s (350SL,450SL,380SL, 500SL and 560Sl) are without a doubt the most reliable cars ever made... 180,000-200,000 miles without a single repair is not uncommon. An occasional service is recommended but not mandatory and the cars will usually keep running...
After the 107s came the 129s which I call the Mercedes Mustang... I guess they were OK but never drove/owned one...
Then in 2002 Mercedes introduced the R230 including the 500HP SL55 AMG which I think are absolutely beautiful and in 2005 Mercedes upped the Ante by over 100HP and introduced the SL65 AMG with 604HP and 750 LBS of Torque dead stock!
I have an SL65 and it is one of the fastest and most amazing cars that I have ever owned. 0-60 the SL65 is only .1 Second slower then my 1965 Shelby 427 COBRA (CSX-3127)... The ultra luxurious 4,400LB SL65 can burn the quarter mile in the high 10s. High maintenance You Bet! but still an amazing car...

Thanks for the replies, I will check the red one out and Mercedesheritage.
I am pretty sure there are no manual 560s but I may find an earlier model, they started production in 1972!
At current pricing the 560 is a steal, it is just a lot of car and I agree, a zenith for MB (over) engineering.
I drove a SL65 at El Toro on a AMG day out (for the gold Rolex crowd) and going down the straight the minder AMG had riding with us screaming brake brake, I still waited and surprised both of us when the car flat stopped and I had to speed up for the turn! Tailhook type stopping to go with blinding acceleration in any gear, I'll bet you go through tires at about 8,000 miles? What a car.
