How to remove dash pad on 73

Or should I leave it in place? Annie is going to paint this week. Trim is stripped and engine dropped. The dash pad only has one small crack and otherwise is perfect. AM I tempting fate by considering pulling the pad for protection. I've read that its easy to hurt one by pulling it. I've searched, but haven't found a diy. thx

There are around 5 or 6 horizontal studs with M6 nuts accessed through the heater/ventilation components, one vertical stud accessed through the speedo hole. Pull the lower edge of the dash towards you to release the horizontal studs, then pull up vertically. There are also 4 or so vertical pins pushed into plastic plugs, which should pop out.

I'd consider a good replacement... I know they're expensive, but all that effort and expense to paint and restore...and you're going to skimp on the dash? And now's the time. Just sayin'...

I wouldn't consider using an original dash in good shape with one small crack skimping.Original in good shape is better in my opinion.

Maybe if we could see the crack a more definitive opinion could be given. Wouldn't you think that a small crack would become larger over time?

Here's a pic. The rest of the dash is perfect. I decided to leave it in place after speaking with the painter. Thanks for the input.

Yea that's not too bad. I see why you have elected to leave it. For sure don't remove it as I'm sure your painter is capable of protecting it..
