    Pebble Beach Teaser

    I went down to Carmel for the Pebble Beach Tour today -- avoiding the crowds on Ocean Avenue by visiting the finish line.

    A couple of cars which got a lot of exposure at Amelia Island are the 1910 Prinz-Heinrich-Fahrt Benz cars -- one owned by McCaw and one by the D-B Museum. They are in many ways the ur-sportscars, light-weight tourers featuring overhead valve engines. I just loved seeing them. Of course, the car that beat them in the 1910 1000-mile trial was an equally advanced sportscar -- the Austro-Daimler driven by its designer, Ferdinand Porsche.
