    My father's lost Porsche...help

I am on a quest. My father bought a 1964 Porsche coupe in I believe 1971—before I get into the story let me just throw in some numbers that I have on it:

    The VIN is 128990.

There is also something that says “AMAG Lauf No 4145”

And lastly, what I think is the engine, it has a P, followed by a star, 811553 then another star, with “Made in Germany” underneath.

The license plate was 534 BVE

Now, my dad had this car from 1971 up until 2006 I believe, when we sold it. He had let a friend borrow it and the friend messed something up, and this very friend was to fix it—time went by, and after legal action, long story short, the Porsche hadn’t been driven or started since 1984. It sat for 20 years in our garage, rusting and fading.

My dad was heartbroken to sell it, but there was a LOT of work to go into it, and we weren’t going to be able to ever get it going. He passed away in 2011 and (being the packrat he was), we found pictures of him driving the Porsche in his late 20s and it really made me happy to see him so excited. I found his registration card, photos, and assorted traffic tickets for…you guessed it…speeding.

I have been googling and researching for hours trying to track this car down. Last I heard, the guy who bought it from us had sold it on eBay for a few thousand more than we sold it to him for. I have photos of the car and have no idea where to post this, so I’m just kind of throwing this story into various Porsche forums in hope that SOMEONE can track it down—I want to see what’s become of it, and if it’s in my state (California), you bet your butt I’d pay a visit. I’m 27, my brothers are 26 and 24, and we basically grew up with this car in our garage. Granted it just sat, we still liked to roll it out the driveway and pretend we were going to fix it one day.

If anyone knows how to play detective and can find this thing…it would be one more awesome thing that’d make me feel my father’s presence. Thank you in advance for ANY tips or suggestions!

You should also post this on the 356 Registry site if you haven't already done so. Good luck with the search.

    Thanks--I'm so stupid with cars, I just realized this is a 911 site. I couldn't find a 356 one!

AMAG is the Swiss importer. AMAG Lauf nr. is the individual car number.
As an owner, you send them an email and get the car's Kardex.
    Yes, Check the 356 registry.
