Those appear to be American Racing 15 X 6 magnesium wheels. The same wheels as shown in the Vasek picture. They are quite different than the American Torque Thrust Aluminum Wheels. They are in big demand!

Sounds like someone should be remaking those. They're pretty damn cool.

So how can you tell visually that they are 15x6s vs 15x7s? Were the 6s mag and the 7s aluminum? Or were there aluminum 6s and 7s?

Pretty comprehensive discussion of these here - http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...=torque-thrust

    Photos here: http://renn-spot.blogspot.com/2012/1...americans.html
    and here: http://renn-spot.blogspot.com/2012/1...icans-day.html

Porsche pattern aluminum Torq-Thrusts were only in 15x7 and are identified by the 5-ear center cap and the aluminum construction. The mag torq-thrusts were offered in a variety of sizes from 5" to 8". The smaller width wheels had a snap-in center cap and the 15x7 and larger mags had a 5-ear center cap.

These wheels were unique in offsets and fitment, so more common Americans made for domestic cars will not work.

ARE did make a 15 X 7 magnesium wheel with a "911R" offset and the small round hole. I have only seen one set of them, though. They came on a 62 356B Cab that was made into a race/autocross car that I bought from a friend many years ago. They looked all the world like the 15 X 6 wheel that we all have seen. Sorry for the sideways picture. The Cab required the rear spring plates to be notched so the wheels and slicks could clear on the inside

    OMG. Chuck is a flipper!

Interesting post Jim. I have seen 15x7 mags but all with the normal 7" backspacing. Never heard of this version. Would be cool to find a pair of those!

Like I said. These 4 wheels are the only 4 that I have ever seen. It could be that some of the wheels that we saw on cars "back in the day" were actually 15 X 7s. One would think that a few would show up, though.

    Ciao
