    Trailing arms on 1967 911S

    Deep into restoration on a 1967 911S Targa and am having problems with the trailing arms. As the pictures show, the right arm has the spherical attachment for the sway bar, but the left one does not. I guess that sometime in the past, the original left sway bar and the left arm were replaced. Is there any way I can add a replacement spherical sway bar attachment to the left arm? Does anyone have pictures of the correct trailing arms on the 1967 911 S models?

    The correct trailing arm for a 1967S and any SWB 911 fitted with a factory rear sway bar is the same as the one fitted to the left side of your car.

    The 'plinth' that locates the Sway bar can also be clearly seen on the top photograph.

    To modify the arm without the ball ended pin is quite straightforward.

    The ball ended pin is still available from Porsche Part No. 901.331.571.02 and is referred to in the PET as a 'bolt'.

    The drop links, bushes and clamps needed to install the sway bar are also available and shown on the same parts diagram.

    The position of the 'pin' needs to be fairly accurate but it should be reasonably straightforward to mark its position using the LH arm as a reference.

    Thanks, John. This explains a lot. On my '67 S there is a ball pin on the right trailing arm, but none on the left. BUT, there is a "carrier" -that's what I'll call it due to ignorance, welded to the left body next to the torsion bar tube like the one shown in your last pictures in the referenced site. There was none on the right side, because of rust damage that must have torn it off. So, sometime in it's past life, my '67 had an after-market set up and the owner did not care about no ball pin on the left trailing arm. I repaired the rust on the right and welded a plate in place, and will go with the original approach of using the ball pins. I ordered one from Stoddard today. The left trailing arm will come off tomorrow, and I'll remove the lone "carrier".

    Jerry,

    The Sway bar mounting consoles that you are referring to (carrier) are also available from Porsche for around $20 per side. The clamp to hold the sway bar rubber is also available for about $10 per side. Rubber bushes are expensive but also in stock, They consoles have a location so it is easy to correctly position them and allow the convenient use of the correct drop link and obtain all of the correct geometry.

    All of these parts are available so you can use the standard sway bar .

    Well, at least John has a respectable 904 post counts right now!

    Jerry... you're on the right path. We did this to some later arms for our 71. Easy as the right size bit and a competent welder.
