    Door Panel Welting

I am restoring a 1967 911. I have new door panels and a roll of welting. My question is how to install the welting? Is it installed to the panel with glue before installation? (what kind of glue?) Is it slipped into the gap after the panel is installed? (what hold it in place?) My welting is vinyl and the inside edge of the panel is vinyl/cardboard.

They were attached using upholstery staples on the back side. When curving the welt at the two bottom corners you have carefully cut a couple of slits on the inner (hidden) portion of the welt so you can get a smooth transition as the welt travels around each corner. Hope this helps.

I need a little clearer explanation. I looked up upholstery staples in google and saw various staples that go into wood frames. Are they shot from the inside or outside and do they go through and then bent flat?

Using the clue of upholstery staples, I use my paper stapler in tack mode and it worked well. The staples a small wire, 0.025 inch long; short enough not to protrude through the other side of the door panel. I would have preferred stainless staples but I do not plan for this car to be n the wet and the staples are on the "dry side" of the vapor barrier.

    Thanks.
