    Trunk Light On A 73

Looking at a 73 that has a cutout in it's hood on driver side for a second trunk light. I thought, but am not certain, that 72 and 73's only had one cutout on the passenger side for a trunk light. Opposite side should not be cut, correct? Same for US and ROW spec cars?

That is correct, one light, pass side.

Thanks. So what should be on the driver side? Extra cut hole with no light? Or no cut hole, just impression in the metal where the hole would be?

Just an indentation/impression on the 73 is correct.

I think, but I'm not sure, but there was a change to the wiring in 73 also, and the hood light will come on without the main lights having to be on.

The more informed will be able to confirm.

    Question Whoa.........

    73ess,

I just took a pic of my April build, U.S. delivered, '73 to show you that there is nothing on the drivers side, just the flat structure of the under-hood.

However, what I NEVER noticed before (a very low light level area) is that on mine there is IN FACT what looks to be a factory cover that's been attached, fared-in, and painted over.........

Does anyone have the same condition on there 2.4 car......

SWB cars had 2 holes & lights, 69 - 71 cars had 2 holes 1 light and 72-73 cars had 1 hole 1 light. Now all of this could change due to whatever pieces were laying around during factory assembly. I'm no expert just pulling this from memory and owning way too many home wreckers I mean 911s.

Chuck - my 73E (May build date) is exactly the same. This trunk light detail peaked my interest in recent months; viewing various early 911s/912s at car shows this summer, the only trunk that I saw with two lights was a 70T. The SWB models I saw had a light on the driver's side and a pressed cardboard like material covering the passenger side light hole.
