Air Filters: Early Sports Purpose or just Early K&N Stuff?

Does anyone know the story on these air filters?

I seem to remember someone telling me they were early factory sports purpose filters. I even thought there was one of those B&W shots of these as part of a factory engine upgrade package but, I'm a tad sceptical and I haven't been able to find any real information on them.

They are black anodized aluminum and über lightweight. Standard K&N filters do not fit so you have to use motorcycle foam and custom cut and glue etc.

I'd just like to know what they are.

Those are old Filtrons with newer foam....the tops, bottoms and springs are as they were sold in the 70s...the original Filtrons had light green foam.

Stoddard sold them as part of a sport kit for '70-'71 2.2Ts I installed the kit on my '70T.
