    Road Trip Essentials?

Hey all - I'll be flying in to pick up my newly acquired '67 S first weekend of October and driving it back (with a buddy) to Los Angeles. Roughly 1700 miles. I've taken road trips in my 993, but what would be a good set of essential tools, fuses, parts that one should carry with them?

Thanks in advance. Looking forward to posting some pics when the trip is hopefully successfully completed.

    Best,

    Ben S.

You basic set of sockets, screwdrivers, and pliers are always a good idea. I'm a fan of carrying tires plus and a bottle of fix-a-flat as well.

For sure buy yourself AAA road side assistance with towing up to 100 miles. It costs less than a $100 for the year and it will save you a ton grief should you need it.. Don't leave home without it...

A nice three season down sleeping bag and foam pad. You never know where you might breakdown. Also unstuffing and fluffing out the bag in the back floor behind the seats increases dead air space by a lot and makes the heater much more efficient with less space to heat.

Your chances are certainly better with that old relic than a new waterpumper, at least the intermediate shaft bearing won't lock up or have an air / oil separator go bad. I carry spare coil/ CD box (been converted) fuel pump clutch cable, points, cap rotor, plug ends, fuses, bulbs, voltage regulator, V-belt, misc. hardware, flashlight, fire extinguisher, and in 13,000 miles of cross country trips in the last three years I have needed one bulb and one fuse! Frankly I'd be worried about any long trip in a newer car !

With (knock wood) about the same the same outcome...

However I have helped few other folks...

BTW - I re-added jumper cables after a 2 hour wait on a very dark and foggy night about 5 miles above Pebble Beach last month after leaving my lights on all day.........

I carry oil, water (for drinking), some snacks, and pretty much the same list as Ed Mayo/Chuck Miller.
