Early 911 and "Le Depart" movie (1967)

For those into French/Belgium movies from the sixties, I saw this film a long time ago and I'm pleased its been released on DVD and in some french movie theatres (probably due to the 50years of the 911). It features one car: a Porsche 911.

"By making his film in Belgium with nouvelle vague icon Jean-Pierre Léaud and co-star Catherine Duport, director Jerzy Skolimowski engaged in an open dialogue with the French New Wave to which his films had been compared from the very beginning. In his irrepressible portrayal of a hairdresser obsessed with race cars and his dream of entering the fastest model Porsche in a weekend rally, Léaud offers an energized and eccentric variation of the drifting young men in Skolimowski’s early films. Le Départ’s zany story of racing and intrigue is fascinating for its vision of a postwar Europe obsessed with speed and modernization, a theme infused with a gentle melancholy by Komeda’s haunting, jazz inflected score".

I was able to download the whole film on torrent. But hard to get with english subtitles.

I like how the TTG lights disappear and reappear - that was one magic Porsche

Looks like he got pretty good use out of that parking brake too

portrayal of a hairdresser obsessed with race cars
    - I often heard the Porsche was considered a "Hairdresser's" car in the UK

I think that nomenclature was reserved for Triumph Spitfires and MG midgets... (not including the beloved bug eye sprite)... when I was growing up (60s and 70s) Porsche was THE poster car for guys who could only afford TR4s and the like... and if you had a little extra than Triumph money, it was spent on Alfas... of course, Ferrari was in a different league... I even recall driving past a house on a council estate (= low income family) that had a 356 under a tarp in the front garden... I never plucked up the courage to go ask if I could buy it...

My route to Porsche (always desired since I saw a 917 at Brands Hatch and then at the Earls Court Motor Show) was via a bug-eye sprite, Fiat 124 sports coupe, Triumph TR3a, etc... etc...

I can honestly say I never heard anyone call the 911 a hairdressers car... though there was a lot of scorn for the 914 (which I could almost afford but was put off by all the negative comments)...

It took me 20 years to manage to get onto the Porsche ladder...

And yes, I like the alternating TTG lights!

Its just a story of a young guy played by Léaud, obsessed to drive a fast Porsche.
He gets one P free to try and later steals the one of his boss...
The rest of the story and where he works as a young employe is pure sideline.

All you see during 90min is a black 66 911 and later a white 67S plus Léaud with his pretty girlfriend.
