Originally sold from Commonwealth Porsche Audi in Boston, MA on August 11, 1972, the car remained in New England with four owners. The majority of the records are from the third owner, who kept meticulous notes beginning with his purchase in 1977 until he sold the car in June, 2005. Mileage showing at just over 117,000 is documented as original. The original tools and books, along with a full set of original keys (still attached to the manufacturer’s information card) is still with the car and all will be included.

In early 1983 the motor was completely rebuilt to Carrera 2.7 spec, including correct pistons and barrels. All the work was documented. At this time the MFI was replaced with Weber carbs. The original MFI is no longer with the car and is not available. In late 1988, the crankshaft, just 7,000 miles since the rebuild, was severly damaged. This in turn damaged the original case and it was replaced with one from 1975. Again, fully documented, showing the Carrera pistons, S camshafts all being used. This work was carried out by the shop under warranty with no charge to the owner. The original case is lost and unavailable.

This 911E has factory sport seats, S trim, and a sunroof. The original radio is still in place and the gauges are clear and functional. The headliner is stained, but is in overall good shape as are the visors. The dash has the typical crack, but the speaker grill is in very good condition. The door pockets are weak and will most likely need replacement. The back seats, parcel shelf, rear interior quarters, and front door panels are all in very good condition.

There is evidence of older body work on the right rear passenger quarter, though the panel appears to be original and not replaced. The passenger door has some rust on the very bottom inside. Overall, the paint is poor and needs to be stripped. There is surface rust on the front decklid, bottom of the spoiler, and some rust on the left front fender. The bottom of the car is very good and is solid. It still retains the original front pans, dual battery boxes, and floor pans. The longitudinal, torsion tube, and front cross member are also solid. The car has never had A/C, therefore the smugglers box is very good with no corrosion. The pedal box area is also solid with no issues. There are three small areas of rust (less than size of a quarter) around the front passenger side outer rocker and the small support brackets for the jack points (both sides). The inner rockers appear to be solid. I believe the outer rockers could both be repaired as opposed to replaced. Door latch panels, trunk latch panel, and engine lid latch panel are all solid. Overall, the gaps on the car are very good, indicating no serious accidents or issues.

The motor starts easily and runs very strong. The shifter bushings need replacement, however, the 915 gearbox shifts easily with no issues. The heat exchangers are older and showing corrosion and would most likely need replacement. The motor is fairly dry underneath. It does not show signs of serious leaks or issues. The Carrera chain tensioner update has been installed.
Overall, an excellent project. A very solid starting point on a car that can be driven now and then transformed to a mild hot rod or restored back to original. Complete records show no abuse or mysteries. I have spoken to the third owner who spoke highly of the car and added additional details to his already copious notes.
Additional photos of the bottom, interior, and exterior are available to those interested. Inspections are welcome. I can assist in arranging shipping.
