    1973 REPA seat belt question...

Porsche lists LEFT & RIGHT part numbers for the REPA/VW belt, but in application/use, is there any reason not to use two LEFTS or TWO RIGHTS? While sitting them side-by-side, the black plastic shrouds that cover the racheting mechanisms are left and right handed in appearance (the cover is larger on one side than the other and 'reversed' for the other side), but in application, the fit seems the same when I moved say a right belt between the right and left side. Am I missing something? I am trying to assemble a pair of NOS belts, but aside from different part numbers on the silk tag, are they different in application?

I don't have a lot to do with these but, if they retract at the correct angle i don't see a problem.
They are also concealed so nobody gets to see them.

    REPA seat belts...REPAmatik

From 1974 they were not handed anymore so handed ones will work anyway. Just make sure that they are mounted in a 12 degrees (about) angle (top towards passenger/driver). This is according Porsche...Just FYI, behind the plastic thicker cover you find something like this but almost every year the retractor mechanism is a bit different. I have seen 72, 73, 74, 75 dated spindles.

    Best regards,

    Cees
