    Help with a paint debate

I'm in a debate with several people on how Porsche painted early 911's and 12's, 1965 to lets say too 1973. Does any one out there have pictures of these Porsche's on the factory paint line that may show them being painted with the doors and both hoods on or off? We all know they were painted with the front fenders on. Please share pictures if you have them.

    Cheers,

for sure the doors were painted off the car as the door pins are not painted - I suspect deck lids and sunroof too

    '74s, again . . .

Only the fenders appear to be mounted . . . looks like the doors + hood are mounted on 'extensions' --- ie. off the body . . . + sunroof panel's in the windshield slot

But everything gets painted at the same time

    Makes sense . . . otherwise there'd be some chance of a color miss-match?

Mike Fitton has a 1971 Official Porsche Factory Tour book that might shed some light

Here is from 1971 tour book - one shows going into paint (doors and lids on) and one picture going out (doors and lids off) - door pins are not painted so maybe they used some "buck" pins for painting then took the doors off to refit ? If they didn't change anything then it looks like the 74' pictures are the holy grail - would certainly make sense that they were very close by on some suspension if not actually mounted on the car as there could be a miss match if they were done on different runs
