Which inserts to Boge strut assembly

My 911E 1970 have the Boge front strut assemblys and I'm planning to change the inserts. Which is the best insert Sachs, Bilstein or Koni?

    Regards

    Nick

I think fitting a Koni is difficult as the shape of the legs are different there is no means of radially locating the bottom of the inset in the housing.

We have fitted Koni Sport Inserts which adjust from the top. These have a small diameter post on the bottom of the insert and they are a few millimetres to short to be locked in place by the gland nut.

If you make a slightly domed spacer with a central location you can lift the insert so it will lock and provide a radial location to prevent swash.

I would fit a Bilstein to Boge insert as it should just fit and clamp in place.

The Koni 86-1647 is the direct replacement for the early Boge Strut:

Unless you need external rebound adjustment or stiffer valving, this is the Koni to use.

I tend to agree with Jason.
Unless something changed... years ago, we put in dozens of these and they fit just fine.

Last time we bought these parts and fitted them to a Boge leg they didn't clamp in as they came up short by 3mm and I didn't like the basic fit.

They also had some radial clearance between the insert and the body and nothing in the bottom of the strut to locate the 'peg' so the could float, hence the adapter that we made.

We've sold this part number for 20 years without issue.
