Did you know that BMW used 911 gauges in their Racecars?

This pic is from the 1975 edition of the Parts and Accessories Catalogue of BMW Motorsport GmbH

Well it is a advertisment shot - so it'll probably look cleaner than a stack of too many 52mm VDO gauges.

And Porsche used a BMW 2002 part on their 914/6 GT race cars...they used the license plate light from a 2002 to illuminate the roundels on the doors!

    Original Equipment Manufacturer

VDO, Bosch, Hella, et al --- these are the OEMs for all of those bits . . . not Porsche, VW, BMW, MBz, etc. I would think that any of this stuff are 'parts off the shelf,' to be used wherever, by any one. Like tires, motor oil, or batteries . . . generic

And way cheaper than having to engineer/develop yourself

I'd be more surprised if this stuff did not turn-up in some other car/place

In other words --- it's not a Porsche or BMW bit, per se
It's a VDO bit that more than one Automaker used

Rick, I would doubt any OEM use of the 911 dash instruments other than Porsche.
Sure they all use the same components, like the silver dot, or the white or orange Hands and other internals but the layout is make specific and not an aftermarket item.
Even I will have some Porsche Parts on my BMW (Shift knob and S Calipers in the front, the rest is OEM stuff like Hella Engine compartment lights and so on)
    Cheers

An instrument upgrade for my 2002 has always been on the list.
    Thank you for the inspiration.

A friend of mine has the mould for the Group 2 2002 Dash - but it would be horror to ship a dash to the us. Perhaps in two parts?
