    68 911s

Greetings! New to your Registry. Recently picked up a 68 911s. Its my first air-cooled Porsche. Two previous Canadian owners (I'm in Toronto). Except for the poor quality respray, looks like a nice 10 footer. Haven't driven it yet as it needs a few things, the most important is the throttle return spring. At least I think so. Probably rotted away during its 10 year slumber. I have lots of questions (like, what's with the shifter? My Kubota has more positive action) and hope to learn a thing or three...

As soon as I figure out how to attach pics, I'll post a few.

Welcome to the forum! Posting pics is a breeze. I upload pics using either TinyPic or Image Shack and then copy and paste the URL code provided by them. Look forward to seeing your recent acquisition.

Welcome to the forum, and ownership of a '68. Would love to get more details on the car, so please share. Is the interior beige?

Congratulations on your purchase! As for your shifter, I'd guess that it's worn out. Rebuild it using new bushings and a new reverse lockout plate, then purchase either a Stomski Racing or Wevo coupler. Don't be tempted by short throw conversion. 901 shifters, when right, require some driver acclimation, but they are very effective and extrememly satisfying to use once the driver and hardware are up to snuff.

    Welcome and nice car.

All of the old/stored cars that I have worked on have the shifter bushings either badly worn or turned to dust. Pull the shifter to inspect and don't forget the trans coupler...
Here are some photos. There are others but these are the usual suspects.

    Greetings! I've attached some pics.

The carbs are Zenith 40 ITN. The last pic shows the attachment for some sensor. Any ideas what this is for? I thought these cars came with Weber's?

Also, I photographed every part number and casting number I could find under the years of crud. Is it safe to post these numbers here?
I imagine more numbers will appear once they wash down the engine. What am I looking for exactly? Name: 91s-1.JPG

    Here are some additional details:

Here's the numbers I've been able to find:

    VIN: 1180****

    Engine
Left Bank (or is that right): 901 105 111 0R
    Shroud: 901 106 101 5R
On Engine by the pulley: *4081xxx*
Hidden under crud: 901/02 & 148** right underneath it

    Trans:
    901.101.102 1R
    901.801.101 0R - the 8 could be a 3
    17/68

Where else can I look? Have I missed anything?

On a side note, changed the oil, filter & battery, changed the plugs & it fired right up.

Growing up, my folks had a 71 Squareback VW. Two levers by the handbrake controlled the heaters. Comparing it to the 911, the shorter lever is immovable. Is that the heater control?
Where can I get an owners manual or at least an explanation of all the knobs and levers.
    More pics to follow.

Looks like you have a 68 S engine with later year T Zenith carbs. That device on the carb you show is a shut off solenoid for emission control.
