    Opportunity Knocking :)

My '73 S has a damaged crank and rod. So replacements are called for. Is this an opportunity to upgrade anything, like better lighter rods or ...?

Lighter rods, Titanium valve spring hats, bigger pistons and cylinders if you really want to get serious. JE makes some lighter weight pistons now using a new design so even if you stay stock diameter it would be lighter.

Lighter is triple good in the engine because it is reciprocating weight that limits engine speed+fast the revs build, and engine longevity (lighter means less stress on bearings, etc.). In addition it is weight that comes off the far back of the car, improving weight distribution a lot.

You could see a very marginal benefit by doing a lot of work and spending a lot of money. Porsche did a good job. Find a std/std crank and a new set of ARP rod bolts.
