    Desirability of models

    Hi All,
I was wondering how recent value developments have affected the desirability ranking of 911's.
A few years ago, the 2.7 RS was the one to have, and the model was fiercely on top of the ranking of desirable early 911's (except of course race models like S/T etc, but that is another matter)
Then the 2.4S coupe was the only good alternative, followed by the 2.0S coupe.
    Targa's were less wanted.

But now the SWT are getting more and more expensive each day, so it looks like things have shifted.
If desirability can be measured in value, how would a top 10 look like?
Here is what I think is the top 10, how do you see the desirability yourself? Because I can very well be wrong, as I only recently picked up my interest again in early 911's
    1 2.7 RS
    2 65/66 model
    3 67 S SWT
    4 2.4 S Coupe
    5 68 S SWT
    6 2.0 S Coupe
    7 2.4 S Targa
    8 2.2 S Coupe
    9 69 2.0 S Targa
    10 2.2 S Targa

    So what do you think?

Think great 2.4S cars still ahead of the 65/66 models but they are gaining fast and I would rank all coupes ahead of all targas for price.

Not bad but I think the 2.0S is still a more valuable car than the 2.4S based on some recent sales and it's being 1 Year Only and the first 'S'.

Clearly 1973.5 911T's with CIS are the ones to have :-)

(and now that you read it on the internet, it's true!)

I think any model sepia brown (what is that german for "septic tank") covered in muck and found in a barn are most desirable

If given a choice of 73S, 67S or 65/66 what would you buy? I do not get the value the latter class is bringing from a driving performance standpoint. It's kind of like the 356 preA cars. they look gorgeous but the drive is primitive. I'd take a T2A all day. But the preA cars are now bringing big bucks. I have driven a 65 911 a lot BITD. It was nice but no 67S. But this is purely based on my experience with performance and driving. My 73 is another ride altogether.

    My Top-14 Long-hoods

This is a pretty specific list w/ some pretty specific cars --- not necessarily in order of price. I considered removing the race cars . . . but I think that genuine factory competition cars will always be the most desirable/valuable --- and so those make up the Top 5 . . . w/ Porsche's early light-weight 'funny car' --- the GTS . . . at the very top

On the other hand, when it comes to price, I think that there are some qualities that would definitely factor significantly as to desirability. The Usual --- low miles, originality, options, color . . . but also history + ownership. For example, if Steve McQueen's '69 ever came up for sale --- NOT the Movie Car, but the one now owned by his son Chad . . . then it could trump a lot of the cars that I listed

    Anyway --- here're my picks

    And sorry, but . . . . 10's just not enough

    1) Any 911 GTS or documented LWB Factory light-weight
    2) 911R
    3) 911RSR
    4) Factory 911S/T
    5) 911T/R
    6) '73 Carrera RS
    7) '64 911
    8) LWB 911S SWT
    9) SWB 911S SWT
    10) SWB 911S
    11) '73 911S (2.4) coupe
    12) '69 911S (2.0) coupe
    13) '72 911S (2.4) coupe
    14) '70-'71 911S (2.2) coupe

    Robbe,
    I LIKE that list!

Although I think you're going to find over the long haul that 2.2S and '72 S coupes will enjoy a top tier niche because of their anomalies.

I'm with Frank (uh-oh) on this. The 2,2S coupe is ahead in desirability of any Targa model, with the exception of an S model SW Targa. I don't see the 2,0S ahead of the 2,2S either. 2,2S is the best of the short stroke motors.

Coupes rule in my book, but the 'market' says SWT are way up the list.
