Whats it worth? '68 sports purpose manual

I recently purchased a lot of early literature, in it is a like new 1968 "Information regarding porsche vehicles used for sport purposes". As values are all over the place with literature I would like some insight as to what a fair value for this manual might be before I list it for sale. Thanks -Wes

i've never seen one before, so i can't help you with value questions ...

however, if it's got some indication that it is an original printing, and not a copy, i'll give you $50 for it, just because it's cool and i have a '68.

    thank you.

Eric is right, that one went for big money, I don't remember how much but it was stunning. I saw one a few years ago it was $1500.00

Is this the link to the Landenburg site?

I see only the one picture. I will post some more pictures of mine. I believe it to be original since it came with a few other very interesting bits, including original 356/a/b/c 911/912/911s workshop/parts books which will probably end up in the classifieds soon. -Wes

    WES,

    is it DIN sized paper cm21 x 30 (8 1/4 x 11 3/4") or 8.5x11"?
Hole punch - center to center mm or inch spacing? cm8 (3 1/8") or 4 1/4"
If it crosses both of those hurdles it's a good chance it's German origin.

For setting a price - don't know of any other venue than Landenburg for making a market for this stuff. Prescott Kelly has a running commentary on collectibles in the 356 Registry magazine but I don't think he has been publishing info on the 911 side of things. Our own Mr Charlie White "derWhite" is a resident expert on the printed sales materials both for the 356 and the early 911. But I' not aware if he is publishing relative selling prices. You might ask him.

Try the literature sellers like David Kayser, chelsealit.com Chelsea Motoring Literature.

Is there anybody tracking and publishing selling prices at the Lit Show in LA., Essen and the Auto Jumble's in England and Autobrocante in France?

Thanks for giving us a heads up.

WES, note the manual you have is pub #W 351 e. the 1968 publication.

The second one sold at landenburg is Pub #4890.20 - 200-03-72 2. Edition from Model 1970
(I'm guessing that translates to printed quantity of 200 and printed in March 1972).

Yet both had the same selling price.

    Bob,
Thanks for the reference! In addition to writing a new book on 911 912 sales literature, 335 pages all color so far, with the Substantial help from several regular e911r posters, I can't add much to what has already been said about these 911 sports purpose manuals, mostly because they are very rare and don't sell often. I too was surprised by the prices paid at the Euro auctions! And the comments about "originality" are spot on!

Personally, I dont think the Landenburg price is a realistic gauge of value. I think that was a one-off driven by auction frenzy. If there are more people willing to pay that price, I have both the 68 and the 70 that I will part with. =)

Agreed. One sale does not make a market.

I am now embarrassed to have made such an uninformed offer. I honestly have never seen one, and made the offer solely because I thought it was a cool piece.

It certainly was not my intent to low-ball anyone. Sometimes ignorance is its own worst enemy.
