    back in the day......early/mid 70s.....I had a friend that did it 2x. He owned a hot rotary shop in LI NY and was a top level wrench.

    They all would meet at like 3 am in some secret spot in LI....using fandangled radar stuff , communication devices, etc....this was pre cell era of course.

    First time he did it w/ a hot rod rx4...came in 3 rd iirc. A 928 was suspected of using a helicopter and cheating,..I dont remember all the details, lol, but folks went to crazy means to win that thing.


    The 2 nd time he did it w/ a big early 70s S class MB...hot rodded out w/ real deal AMG go fast stuff....it was a real bear.....scheel seats...headers....it was a real german big block hot rod.
