Jim Schrager Five Porsches To Own SCM 12-2013

It appears that Jim Schrager has spoken on value in the December 2013 Sports Car Market (Pages 38-39).

Good for him. I have to agree on all counts other than the fact that the Speedster is going to be hard to find under $75,000 and get a really nice one. One of the best I've ever seen is up for sale currently and $75,000 isn't going to touch it.

Here are the Cliff Notes. Please buy a copy of SCM.

"Pass quickly by SWB 911's (1965-68), as they are way too much money".

    Here's the List:

    69-73 911-T
    78-83 SC
    76-77 Turbo
    2001-2002 996 Twin Turbo
    '89 Speedster

Very happy to see SC's show up on quite a few lists of "Porsches to own now".....I own the car I couldn't afford in High School.....would never sell it but it's nice to see it get some respect!

...and I somewhat disagree on his 912 comment (despite owning his #1 recommendation, a 72T). Sure, if you are going to restore a car, better do a 911S instead to get your money back. But you can buy a very nice 912 that needs nothing in the 25K range and that's a lot of fun for your money vs the stratospheric early car prices we're seeing.

That early 911s are expensive now, 356s crazy high (and possibly on a bubble), that you might as well skip 912s too... Recommends 911T models (for nice driveability and reasonable pricing), early 911 turbos, later turbos, and late 80s speedsters...

SC's are great cars, my first Porsche was a 1979 SC, petrol blue with black sport seats. I just picked up a 77 turbo Carrera, owned a few 930's but these are different.

    2006 Carrera S

1973 BMW 3.0CS - Frances (gone but not forgotten)

Yep. Those days are long gone, sadly. I'm looking for a solid driver with its original engine and I'm seeing numbers in the $200k range.
