    1969 Porsche 911E....Thoughts

    Hello

We have a car that has been out of circulation for years. It's a 1969E no sunroof coupe. Original in most ways, but fiberglass flairs installed in the 80's plus a rear tail. Car is considered a light weight model with the original matching 2.0 liter engine bored to a 2.4. S crank, S cams, weber carbs, MFI is still with the car. 8 and 9 inch Fuchs.

I would like to restore but mixed feeling on doing it for cost reasons....paint is now green metallic should be Irish green....so much work, no rust...

Is it better to sell as is or restore .....what is value?Name: image.jpg

Do you want to restore for yourself or for added value sale ? If for extracting more value, sell now. It's not worth it to take it back down to the original body.

Sounds like you might have wavering enthusiasm ? Someone who has the passion to build a hotrod for themselves can put the work in to build something special based on the existing body (minus the tail of course !!!).

It appears to have a good basis and it has the original motor. I'd restore it. You can nip away at it over 3 or 4 years. You will be happy that your did when your done...and they way values have been escalating, you won't get hurt.

It's almost always better to sell it and let someone else restore it.

Restoration is expensive. Used rear quarters are nearly unobtainium right now and are not insignificant to install. My shop tells me to figure on $8K to restore both quarter panels to ready-to-paint condition. You can buy front fenders, but you'll pay $750 each or so and still have to put some time into them. You need front and rear bumpers. $$$. You need engine lid and possibly the rare 3-bar grille for it. $$$ You need wheels. You need a full paint strip and repaint... Having said that, a very well restored '69 E coupe, matching, but with invisible performance upgrades (once you have recalibrated MFI in place) is likely a $60K car today. So it all depends on how much you're into the car as shown.

Yes, I think your right about resto, very expensive. The rear quarters are a big challenge to repair, I did not know the rear sheet metal is not available. Good paint job is expensive too. It's just like the originality.

I could just track the car for what it was made for or sell. My other option is just store away for later.

    Thanks

keep it and drive as is, if you want to restore it back then take your time searching or looking for donor cars for fenders, there's always someone parting a 911 here and other sites so be on lookout, it also depends on how much detail you want put in, you have nice sports seats there which alone add major $$ to this car, shop around for small time paint shops and see what they can do, you can spend $10k on paint alone at some fancy-sounding shop or be wise and hire someone small time who can do the same thing for much less....the main thing to rememebr here is that these cars are rare and as each day passes but they go up, i'd keep it and enjoy the car and not be a show car, just drive it and enjoy as it was meant to be

    So --- what did you decide? . . .

    Don't see a '69 in your signature line, so . . .

$60k. Is it really what a "very well restored 69E coupe, matching" sells in today's market? Seems really low to me but I might be wrong. I see matching 69E as very desirable.....but that' just me.
