Thread: Feeler for new SSI's

The other critical step is the surface passivation which can greatly affect the corrosion resistance.

Well, stainless steel is supposed to be self-passivating. The chromium oxide coating is much like aluminum oxide- hard and non-porous enough to protect the metal below from further oxidation. It is thin enough that it is clear so you see the shiny metal below.

Flieger, you're absolutely right about martensitic and austenitic stainless !

My words about the stainless chinese quality was about some troubles I got some years ago : I'm making stainless steel parts for nuclear (in metal spinning) and bought one day some sheet supposed to be 304L to a french supplier (with a chinese certificate of analysis which says it was 304L)
We try to make the parts, but more than 60% broke during process !
I just took the certificate, and sent it to my customer technical service also with some metal.
After 2 weeks, they said the certificate was false, and the metal was not 304L, not enough Nickel !!!!

And after we spun the stainless, it become usually magnetic as you said !

PAssivating is very useful if you weld the metal

[QUOTE=QWKENF-911;687526]John Daniels SSI's: made in USA
    Dansk SSI's: made in China
The only thing I want made in China is Chow-Mein with no bean-sprouts[/QUOTE
I was under the impression that all tooling was sent to Europe for manufacturing of the SSI heat exchangers? Perhaps the older Dansk `ssi``s were manufactured in China and not the new all stainless steel items we are all expecting from Europe…..Cliff

John is a good guy. No BS out of him. He tells it like it is. I wish him well in his retirement.

Dansk owns the line/tools/company name etc..

As for prices, what did you expect? There is NOW no competition.
