Thread: SWB seat hinge rebuild question

    I did it with a bolt in the jaws of a set of vice grips. Put the bolt in the loop of the spring and use the vice grips to pull it around and tight. Wear eye protection. When those springs take off, they take off like a bullet.

    was the spring seated in its center groove of the hinge,I cant envision it

    seat hinge

    Here is the passengers outside hinge (with the seat back latch) and the drivers outside hinge (no seat back latch). (1964-1965 vintage)

    Where are the washers located that secure a snug fit?


    As a side note and Off Topic are the pin on the seat angel lever.
    On the passenger side a hole was drilled and a cross pin inserted that holds the release lever so it can not move back and out of the conical gear slot.
    Drivers side does not have the pin (but is marked for drilling).

    The second Off-Topic is the conical gears on the drivers side - note an old autocross fix, locate the seat for proper driver fit, drill a hole and tap for the screw which holds the two conical gears in contact and is a non-movement pin which will not allowing the seat to change position in the heat of competition ....

    AIRC there are several tool designs out there I've seen through the years. I take no credit for the one attached as it was gleaned from the net some time ago, most likely from this site. It is basically a socket or pipe with a notch for the spring tail and a method for twisting it. Credit to whom ever originated this.
