I have always wanted a henna red (orange) one.
They too have risen a lot in price.
The lines really appeal to me though I wish there was more room in the cabin.
Such an understated car.

A good buddy of mine owns this one. He drives it all over, occasionally tracks it, as well as puts it in shows...He loves it and has matching luggage as well.

I have the M1 that was BMW Motorsports own
personal" car. It was their show and display car for three years and has a couple of neat features unique to it. Here's a pic of it before I bought it. It's a pretty amazing car and a great driving car. Reminds me a good bit of my Carrera RS.
Jack, that looks like Mike's car.

I guess the concurrent M6 had the same engine. I was coming back from a WV Rally with Lewis and Reza. We we're spread pretty far out on 81, Lewis was pretty far in front, I was in the middle. Lewis texted a meeting spot at an exit gas station so I picked up the pace when that era M6 got on the highway. It just looked like a vintage 6 series as I didn't see the badging. He started following me then passed and moved through traffic. There was some open road in front of me and I sped up, he pulled in behind and I sped up some more and then more still with him following closely. After going a certain multiple of the limit I slowed into the right lane and he blasted past. Then I saw it was an M6 with a license that said "1 of few". I'm not used to being chased by 30 year old cars! (At least not those driven by people I don't know. I read later the M6 was among the fastest cars sold in America at the time it was introduced.

I was lucky enough to come across this BMW M1 at the Pre-Historics at Laguna Seca in the Bonham display area where the car was awaiting going to auction at the Quail the following Friday. Owned by the Guggenheim, to which it was donated by a previous owner, it was being sold off so the proceeds could be used to fund purchases of "more appropriate artworks" for the museum. It brought a then-record amount of $770,000, for a total $854,000 purchase price.
Peter Gregg personally specified all the details and ordered the car from BMW Motorsport GMbH head Jochen Neerpasch in Aug. '78, specifying complete Group 4 modifications, Black Watch tartan seat inserts, and the "nicest, most sporty sounding" exhaust available. Car was delivered to Peter Gregg Racing in Jacksonville, FL in June '79, bearing Ser.# 9403-1053. Frank Stella, an American contemporary artist applied the artwork by hand, signed & protected by clear-coat.
No hijack intended, just happened to have photos handy, and thought you might enjoy the images.
