Thread: Mystery RHD 1965 car

  1. #11
Shame that’s one less RHD 901 out there. Along with the silver car that no one has heard of in years and which is reported destroyed, there’s 2 lost early cars - and they’re rare enough anyway with only c.14 true MY 65 RHD cars produced ...

I’d been wondering the Casey car’s fate for the 30 odd years I’ve owned my First Customer RHD 911 - well done Hugh.

Unbelievable to think that prior to the Casey car being wrecked, the two consecutive chassis numbers lived in the same region just 4 hours away from each other, when Ron Angas’ car lived in Adelaide where it’s been since 1969, when it moved from the Barossa Valley.

I’ll post a separate link with details - but enjoy this video here. Porsche have been having some fun with my car !

thanks for your detective work Hugh - one more mystery solved unfortunately not in a positive sense !
just curious - you give the colour as 6607 Sand Beige - is this from a Cardex or C of A ?
the reason I ask is that I have always had it in my mind that it was Bahama Yellow 6605
in the b/w pics it looks brighter than SB - also I had a BY 912 a long time ago

    Stewart and Hugh
Michael Browning wrote a piece on 0475 in an AUS magazine together with a Green turbo about 20 years ago
I will see what I can dig up from the owner over the weekend
    0474 has always been accounted for - MMU 911C - with a piece in Classic Porsche 20 Nov/Dec 2013

    cheers

    Hi Dennis
On the color it definitely was NOT from a COA. I had thought for a long time that IF it was a 65MY car it would be Champagne yellow. It was described in the newspaper as yellow. However the second owner used different term - he called it "light brown". All I can say is that it was from a very reliable source and the fact it was a 66 MY color was discussed but it was also pointed out that it was not unprecedented to have 66MY colors on a few of the June 65 made cars despite the fact that the color technically was not available. I could add "don't ask me my source and I wont tell you a lie "

that is a great photo of 0475. I hadn't seen it before

Great research Hugh. Shame about the outcome. Very happy with my 882 just doing a lot of digging into NSW newsletters finding what club events it competed in.

Interesting video... I just love the notion the essence can be recreated with paint, leather, and wood...

Hi Dennis - I had the numbers on the Casey car run by Porsche - it definitely was “6607” // Hamilton’s // & “rechtslekung” as called out on the Kardex according to their Factory records.

    300475 reporting in

    Hugh and Stewart

here are some pics of 300475 I took this morning
the chassis plate is in order, the paint tag is 6401
this car is in very original condition and the speedo reading of 20593 looks authentic
    the interior is excellent
it has been painted - not too well - silver at some point
it appears to have been in Sydney for most of its life
due to unsavory types creating unauthorised clones as outlined by Hugh, the owner wishes to be anonymous
any idea what make the wheels are - they came with the car ?

    cheers
    Dennis

Fantastic! Do we think the dark grey inlays on the seats are original? Unusual interior may explain why completion of this car was delayed relative to 300474

    I'll second Chucks WOW.

In 18 years of being around early RHD cars, I've never seen any pictures of it. Thanks for sharing
