I agree Robert. I have not seen any MY'65 or '66 RHD cars with buttons on the dashtop.

While we have the attention of the RHD crowd. Anybody ever seen a RHD with a Webasto? There was that one NZ car with the Webasto on the Kardex but my question is "how the hell did that fit in the half size RHD smugglers box?"

Was there an alternative mounting arrangement? I couldn't find any /RL options in PET.

I have always understood that RHD cars never had a webasto as they did not fit and have used that as a guide to whether I thought a car had had an after market RHD conversion. Although it is always possible that an error may have been made on a Kardex (much less likely than on a COA though)

From what I've found, the dash top on an early RHD is plastic and not metal. The chassis number is written on the back of it in red crayon. It's an assumption that the production numbers were so low, it didn't justify the press tools. They also have a pair of small horse shoe shaped fittings which bolt to the car from the luggage compartment. This was also adopted onto LHD dash tops instead of the 4 button topped dash.

The trunk floor is a completely different shape and provides no room for the Webasto heater. Just a small hatch for accessing the steering joints and master cylinder reservoir.

Does anyone have photos of this RHD dash top removed from the car? It would make sense to vacuum-form a piece like this for low volume parts. I know some very early 1966 MY RHD cars still had the early dash and knee pads.

Yes, I have photos of the dash and the fittings from the bottom. It's made from the same white plastic they used to shape the inside rear quarter panel trim.

Interesting Dave, what sort of chassis numbers are you seeing with no turn-up end knee pads. When you say early dashes - what do you mean 5 or 6 piece? I have a RHD Sept 65 dash in my car and a '68 RHD spare dash and difference between them is only final assembly detail.

Great thread and detailed automotive archeology.
Sorry to backtrack a little but do you know the chassis number of the rhd 67S that was repaired using parts of the Casey car.
