    Vaya con Dios, Lars Helmer

Thomas L. reported from Sweden today that ex-Werks rally racer Lars Helmer has passed away. He was one of the best-known, if not THE best-known co-driver in Porsche racing history. There have been many excellent Werks driver/co-driver pairs in the lexicon of Porsche rally/enduro racing, but none more recognizable than Björn Waldegård and Lars Helmer. They competed and often garnered podium finishes in some of the toughest rally events of the day - Monte Carlo, Rally Sweden, Rally Acropolis, East African Safari Rally, etc. The list goes on and on. You'll see his name stenciled on some of the most coveted longnose race cars... and it's sad to know that he's not around any longer.
