175 bhp, 134 cu. in. overhead-camshaft flat six-cylinder engine, five-speed manual transmission, MacPherson strut front suspension with single lower transverse A-arms and anti-roll bar, independent rear suspension with semi-trailing arms and transverse torsion bars, and four-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 89.3 in.

•Wonderfully original, with 5,000 actual miles
    •Single-family ownership from new
•Complete with unused original tools and numerous rare accessories
    •The next best thing to a “new” 1970 911

By the early 1970s, the Porsche 911 had hit its stride, and its iconic shape had become instantly recognizable to a future generation of collectors. The air-cooled rear engine was producing up to 200 horsepower, and the marque’s success in all forms of competition tempted many sports car enthusiasts to try a 911—and never go back.

The 911 E Targa offered here was purchased new by a Porsche dealer in the Chicago area, and it remained in his family until 2013.

As per family legend, the car sustained one door ding while being driven by a boyfriend in a parking lot. The family was told by the body shop that a perfect match could not be guaranteed, so the car was completely repainted in its original color of Bahia Red. The black interior remains in outstanding, original, nearly perfectly preserved condition, as do the targa top and cover. The car retains its original tool set, which has never been used, as well as the factory tire pressure gauge, an original touch-up stick in the glove box, an owner’s manual, a maintenance booklet, and numerous other rare accessories that rarely survive with these cars.

Most incredibly, this Porsche has been driven just 5,000 original miles in the last 43 years, and it is described as being “as-new” in every respect.

Someone opened that glove box door many times to wear the paint as I see it. Not calling BS but my orig glovebox shows nowhere near the wear with one hundred thou on the clock. Maybe my po never used the glove box. Oh, sorry just saw repaint.

That's a lotta scratch for an E targa. If I were a buyer at that level, I would want to pore over that car and see corroborating paperwork. There are some details that look 5,000 miles and others that say 105,000 miles. The satin sheen on the dash and door top vinyl look low mileage, but that glove box door, drivers mat, and other things look higher mileage. And why was it painted? For 5k miles, I would expect a near perfect car unless the storage conditions were poor.

First clue: they repainted the entire car because their paint man said they couldn't match the color on a single panel. Uh huh. Right.......

Euro front turn signal lenses, hood badge does not look correct (repro), steering wheels looks like recovered at some point. Is tach correct?

Upon closer inspection: engine compartment hoses show far too much wear to be "5000 miles" but could easily be 105,000; excessive wear to Fuchs wheels; pitting on exterior chrome; glove box wear (as noted above) wildly inconsistent with claimed mileage; manufacturer's plate lifting on left side; way too much wear in the trunk carpet and surrounds; BUT, on the other hand, a nice red overspray on the Porsche rear lid script where the body shop tried to mask the letters instead of removing them prior to painting, a process that would likely have consumed about 5 minutes.
