    Camber plate stuck to insert...Help Pls

    I am having trouble removing the camber plate from the strut insert. The other side I heated up the bush and melted it off leaving the metal sleeve. I ended up grinding it off.

    I don't want the insert but don't want to go throughout the same process as above.

    i have left it overnight with WD40, like I did with the other side. It made no difference on the last one. Using a BF Hammer didn't budge the insert either.

    Maybe a hydraulic press,,,,,,set the camber plate on the press rails and push against the the shock insert.

    If you aren't going to use the insert, I would support the camber plate like Ed says, and hit it with a hammer. The impact might help break up the rust holding it together.

    Thanks guys. I bought a press. Should have done it ages ago. Unfortunately i pressed the rubber bush out of the camber plate, but the bush and sleeve are still well bonded to the insert. Next?

    Tim is there not enough room to just cut the threaded portion on the insert now?

    I am assuming its the strut, and not the insert you're trying to save?

    So pressed the insert and gripped the rubber, the rubber broke away, so back to square one. I ground off the sleeve. Either way they are off and apart.

    Funny thing is, I was on to the 1970S struts next. These are looking pretty nasty. Rattled off the nut, and the camber plates slipped right off on both. I guess you can have a win sometimes as well!
