Should the air intake hose for 1972 911T connect to anything?

My 911T was missing all the air intake parts when I bought it. I have tracked most / all of them down, but there is a silver hose that goes from the air intake box through the engine bay floor. Should this hose connect to anything, or just suck in cold air from under the car? It seems to be too long to just poke through the floor?

Sorry about the barrage of questions I am posting, but I am new to the area and have no other cars or Porsche guys that I can refer to. However, my learning curve is steep and I hope to be able to contribute back to the forum soon!

It connects with the heat exchanger. Next to the similar hose for heat

Those may be SSI heat exchangers without the hot air box for that hose to connect to.

As was mentioned above this hose connects to the pre-heat box on the original style heat exchangers. Your SSI exchanger doesn't appear to have this additional box (mine doesn't either). I've heard that the new run of SSIs can be ordered with the pre-heat box, but can't confirm this.
As far as your hose is concerned, I'd disconnect it and cover up the hole in the engine tin. As it sits, it's not performing any function and since the hose is so low to the ground, your likely sucking up dirt etc kicked up by your rear tires.

    Cheers

Great, thanks for all the useful info, my SSI exchanger has no connection point, so I'll follow Kents advice and disconnect the silver hose

Depending on how much of a stickler for originality you are you could also remove the pre-heat flapper box and rubber hose that connects it to the air box. This was SOP for most of these back in the day. Just save it in a box somewhere.
Removing the clutter cleans up the look of the engine bay and will only serve to help the airflow. It's absolutely not needed in Nor-Cal.

Wow, nice clean bay! I could have saved myself $300 not buying the pre-heat flapper box and rubber hose! At least I now have those for when I pull my motor and detail the engine bay properly

Nah, that pic was taken back when my engine bay was sloppy
It never hurts to accumulate original parts, even if they don't end up on the car. I bought a nice set of sugar scoop headlights that I really have no intention of ever putting on. Still, nice to have them for an unforeseen sealed beam headlight fad! Haha.
