    Window winder help

Any ideas why my windows are so hard to wind up about 3/4 of way up or going down. Lubed what I see but no improvement.

They probably need new pivot pins.

Check the regulator pins ….. and guess who (amongst others!) can sell you fine replacements!

Seriously, the original ones distort or fail and cause the spring that assists the window movement to be significantly impaired. You need to remove the door card and the regulator to check them so not a quick job.

The pin seems fine, but I have not pulled the mechanism to inspect the back side. No wobble or slop. It seems to wind and crank as normal, just becomes strained as though the window is in a bind. I sprayed Lithium grease in the tracks and this made a little difference but still did not fix issue. If you wind fast it goes up, but if you do a slow wind it binds and is hard to move. Thanks

Mark, when it binds try pushing down on either end of the window, if that seems to help then the window is trying to bind (ie. cocking in one direction or the other) There is an adjustment on the mechanism to adjust the tilt. There is a locknut on the back side of the mechanism where all the arms pivot. You can't see it as it is on the backside, feel around for it, loosen and change tilt.

Ed, I did this and did not find any change in the bind. No racking. Is it possible that it could bind due to old rubber or felt tracks? Are they suppose to be lubed, even though I said screw it and did it? Or are they supposed to be a dry slide. I guess the only way to find out if it's the track vs mechanism would be to separate the two and move the window by hand up and down and crank the mechanism to see it it binds? Lot of work! And with the weight off the mechanism it might act totally different. Arg....

Mark, had a similar symptom, maybe not the same problem : the cable that goes from the inner door handle to the opening mecanism, for unknown reason, jumped out its initial place, then interact (making it tough the window mecanism. always at 3/4.
I found out and fixed it by removing the inner door panel and place the cable in its correct place.

    Hope this helps
