    Kubica - 1st Win of 2014

Kubica won the first major rally of the year today - the Jänner Rallye in Austria. This is an FIA-ERC event and he was using it as a warm-up for the Monte Carlo in a few weeks. He was down 19 seconds going into the final stage and had an unbelievable run to take the overall win and the Colin McRae Flat Out Trophy. Conditions were tricky with black ice all weekend and Kubica had never driven the stages before, had a new car (Ford Fiesta RS) and a new co-driver!

Velocity has been showing the ERC rallies, matter of fact I just watched the rebroadcast 2013 Janner Rally last Saturday. I don't know when they will start showing the '14 season, there doesn't seem to be any info on their website.

Velocity generally shows the Eurosport coverage of the ERC events on Saturday afternoons and random other times. I think they were delayed at least 1-2 months last year And the broadcast is basically the same as the Eurosport vids on YouTube that are available same day/next day of the rally. This is a good website to find all the latest videos: eWRC.cz Jänner Rallye 2014 Vids

The conditions were tricky - tarmac with a combination of loose gravel, black ice, mud and snow sprinkled on top

Here's another: Kubica Maximum Attack. I think this was the first time he had driven on studded tires as well.

This is the full onboard of Kubica's bonzai run on the final stage at the Jannerrallye. He came from 2nd overall to 1st on this run. This is a RRC Fiesta which has less power than a WRC car.

And he did that with the distraction of a spotlight in his face! (Although he did "take care of it" eventually...

Yeah, a really close call at around 2:50, right after he turned the lights off and then he was overdriving the headlights and missed the curve
