    Look at the Chassis plate.
Out of interest, what does a real chassis plate look like?

Didn't think they had stars on the chassis numbers? There does seem to be a lot of variation in the font and font size of Porsche prototype chassis numbers. Could be that some of them are poorly reproduced but I suspect more than one style came out of the factory in the first place. The race department were building cars by hand after all. Has there ever been a thread about this?

Use of stars / asterisks in chassis numbers

Is this what it should look like? (Found at random on Google)

    906-119.jpg

If yes, then it's interesting that Porsche adopted stars on its prototypes in 1966. 904s built in 1964 do not have any stars in their numbers.

Is there a read across to the road cars? I had a 1965 911 and it had no asterisks on its chassis number. My 1968 car does have asterisks.

When were the stars / asterisks adopted? Anyone know the story here?

The car is the real deal, authenticated in Jurgen Barh's 906 book (the sole authority on 906s) which was written many years ago and has a meticulously documented history. Well known in the inner circles of Porsche racing historians/experts.
