1968 SWB project - what is it worth?

    Hi All,

I have been lurking but never posted. Its a shame that my first post is a request for how much my project is worth.

I am wondering what i would get for my project, as a whole and as parted out. I have the following:

1968 SWB 912 ex California. It has been converted to RHD (done well) it is a solid car but the floor was replaced with incorrect sheet metal. it has 1 swb guard and 1 lwb guard, the engine lid is damaged. It has the interior with low back seats, but very rough.

I have also collected the following in wanting to build a 911r replica:

    1. 2.7 engine with MFI
    2. Weber 40 - rebuilt (by CSC in burwood) with manifolds linkage and metal air box
    3. 2.7 crank, pistons/barrels and cams (all machined and tested)
    4. 901 5 speed gearbox
    5. 4 x fuchs

    Any advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

It would depend to some extent to how much rust and if the conversion has engineers approval.

Are you sure its MFI not CIS on the 2.7 engine? You may have seen a very tidy SWB 912/911 engined car advertised for some time in the low 50's with no takes as yet.

This car would swallow $30K+ very quickly. I'd say $15-20K maybe.

    Hi Low_912

Pretty difficult to throw you a hard number. If you can post more photos, engine number, gearbox number, and close ups of the conversion; it will give people a better idea of what you have. If everything is "nothing special" then it's probably a $15-20k project, you may get more parting everything out separately. The fact that it's SWB increases value a little, but the 68 year model was unique and very hard to source correct parts for, and unfortunately being a 912 chassis, the racing guys probably won't be interested as they need 911 chassis numbers for eligibility.

I'll post a link here in the Aussie Typ901 forum - an extra audience

Well there's two of us on the $15-20k census...

If the engine is marked 911/83 then that is another whole ball game

    That is CIS, not MFI.

Sorry CIS not MFI... The intention was to rip it all off and put the webers on

It is a common mistake, since it is not fully electronic like the later Motronic many people will call CIS "mechanical fuel injection" when dealing with other brands. But with Alfas, BMWs, Mercedes, and Porsches MFI refers to the higher pressure, sequential, open-loop type of injection utilizing the piston pump derived from diesel engine designs.
