Very interesting that the factory went for the retro look...

I just don't like the profile. I miss the more vertical look of earlier cars.
Of course, I feel that way about all the new Porsches .

I see marketing desperation to draw the toney buyer. That should make an incredible wind!

I'm generally not a fan of the looks of the newer 911s, but I think the 991 Targa is OK - I like the retro cues. I am completely dismayed, on the other hand, by the incredible complexity of the automatic Targa top mechanism. At first, I thought these photos were a joke:

Scott - my thoughts exactly. I like the look, but that Rube Goldberg top mechanism is beyond ridiculous. I suppose they're just catering to the current customer base who couldn't be bothered to open 2 indestructable mechanical latches and simply lift the top off themselves. The only thing missing is the boot and the watering can.

Love the new Targa...I think they nailed it...I agree CE, it is a Rube Goldberg top mechanism and clearly will break early and often, but in order to make the car appealing to the new car buyer, they had to come up with a way to store the top w/o a human touching it.....otherwise they would never sell any of them.

Question 1: Where does the top of the targa bar go when the top is going back into the stowed position.

Question2: Is the targa bar a roll bar?...If so, I wonder how they accomplished it with the top of the bar moving out of the way when the top retracts

The Targa's windshield wiper mechanism is much simpler than the top:

Can you get it without the crazy mechanism? A soft window would be really cool!
