Curt, its possible the current Targa roof does not fit anymore the 991's trunk. Plus safety issues, I doubt 2 latches are today (crash) legal and maybe also not by having it stored in the front trunk. But maybe I'm wrong.

Maybe, but I do know there are manually-operated convertible tops in modern cars that have latches somewhat similar to the classic Targa. No doubt a manual top would be a tough sell on a $100,000+ car! It seems like there could have been a much more Porsche-like solution to the problem. I'm probably biased based upon experience with my wife's old Saab 900 Turbo. It had a horrid convertible top mechanism not unlike the Targa consisting of various metal arms, hinges, servomotors, etc. that needed perfect alignment and adjustment. It required $500 in repair about every 6 months I finally converted it to a 'coupe' by pulling the fuses for everything related to the top. Problem solved! I see a similar fate for these new Targas 5 years down the road ....

Porsche is just thinking of the service end of things, what all those micro switches and motors. A money maker for the service department. A good friend that owens a independent shop used to tell me that the retractable top set ups and IMS failers were just about the best money makers going for the shop. Lets let the coustomers figure out short comings in design then fix it after the fact, If we can. Reverse enginering works for the Chinamen.

But it looks real cool from my house. Ya just can't beat Old School.

Interesting to read all the hyperbole about this car and the mechanism by which it retracts. For the most part it's all poppycock, cynical rubbish. Targa's are an acquired taste and usually NOT for most single car Porsche owners. I get that. Their utility works best here in SoCal where it's ( Targa ) use can be used at least 300 days a year. As far as styling goes, I personally think they " nailed- it". The soft window RUF version is a sexy idea, but requires a few more steps to get to the final non window version.

This reminds me of the first sighting of the Cayenne, when this community thought Porsche betrayed it's followers. Sheesh, Porsche first started making Targa's' before most were even born. Porsche knows their sh** better than most. Peace !

I think it looks great: but I wonder if the roof is retractable when the car is moving? That seems to be a criterion adopted by a number of other prestige manufacturers...

    Blue 911 Targa's, clearly a reference to the early ones (1966, 1971)

It's a well know fact that car colours are like children... everyone thinks theirs is the best.

But actually Tangerine is the best color...
