1973 Carrera RS / 911S Targa: similar in period pricelist.

Contemplating the German market 1973 Pricelist February 1973, I see:

    Porsche 911S Targa:
    DM 34'700.- total

Porsche Carrera RS w option 471
    DM 34'700.- total

For German market, headrest were still not mandatory..and if a customer ordered some common options for his Targa or Coupe, a 911S could costs more than an RS. Cheers

Very interesting reading. I see targas are way more expensive than coupes in each category.

Your price comparison is a little unfair. A 911S coupe compared to an RST (similar specs) would have been over 4000DM cheaper.

    Thanks for posting.

Mike, not going into peanuts, but a high-spec 911S Coupe (at 32800.-) could easy equal/outdo a RSTouring (at 36500.-), if a german customer ordered sunroof, leather, 5 speed, radio, Koni and a few other goodies, right ?
Between an RS Touring and a high spec 911S, there was almost no price gap.
Even the 210hp RSTouring was another kind of car, of course...

Interesting period document to show the limited edition RS was aimed for the sports/compet. driver but one could also have an 911S with high specs for an (almost) similar price.

I had a friend who went into a showroom here in Australia with the view to buying a new impact bumper 2.7 911 in late 1973, early 1974

He came away with an RS Touring, which had been hanging around the showroom, and he was offered a deal on it.

As Chuck says ... and so it goes.........
