Text To 911? coming in 2014

According to the FCC and the 4 major wireless carriers TXT to 911 is going to become a reality in 2014. Has anybody here used it yet or know of anyone how has?

The top four wireless carriers in the U.S. have agreed to speed up their efforts to support text-to-911 capabilities, making it available by May 15, 2014.Text-to-911 service is currently available on a limited basis in a few areas.

I think it's bloody brilliant. This way they can quickly classify the situation to determine course of action.
Calls go to first responders. Texts go in the trash.

    "911, What's your emergency?"

"i want to report a crime the jack weed at the window gave me straight fries after i SPECIFICALLY asked for curlyfries"

I think it is a dumb idea. If its an emergency as in "...what's the nature of your emergency ..." and if it is only a text could be a life threatening protocol. Someone has to tap out what's wrong? Don't think so.

If it texts, its a phone. Make the call and save lives.

I don't hide in my own house and a cell phone is the last thing I'm reaching for.

Anybody who is counting on the police to save them is delusional.

They are not a personal protection service. You are RESPONSIBLE for your own safety.

I've spent enough time with policemen to know that is a fact.

"It is well-settled fact of American law that the police have no legal duty to protect any individual citizen from crime, even if the citizen has received death threats and the police have negligently failed to provide protection."

The Supreme Court has had numerous cases brought before it and none sided with the victims.

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.
