    Question for the Key Experts

Both my door and ignition keys are different. I am assuming the ignition got changed at some point in the past. I purchased a blank key (for a '70) and was going to rekey the doors to match the ignition and get a second key cut. However, when I received the blank key I noticed (see picture below) that it has only 2 cut ridges running the length of the key (same as my door key) while my ignition key has 3. Were the type of keys changed at some point? Will a lock smith cut that 3rd ridge? I assume it matters since they have different cross section profiles (2 ridges vs 3).

Thanks for any assistance. I don't want to rekey my doors and get a new key cut if they aren't going to work.

Could it be that one key is actually the valet key, which works on all locks except the globe box?

    Irish,

It looks like you bought a valet key. It won't be able to lock/unlock the glove box.

Size: 329.6 KBI have mostly the 2 cut type for my cars. The red key is the valet key and it has the extra cut judging from the picture above.

So it looks like my existing ignition key is actually a valet key. That is great to know. Thank's everyone for their replys and the pictures. I can now go ahead and have the blank cut to match my ignition key and get my two door locks rekeyed with no worries that things aren't going to work.
