Early seat rails, base, sport and standard seats information...

    Sorry about the mouthful heading.

So my 73 S was delivered with Beige leatherette code 31, but somewhere during its tumultuous life, one of the owners decided to change the interior from Beige to Black (I assume, he might also be the one that repainted the car from Sepia to light yellow..)

In short, it seems as though the change happened with whatever he could get his hands on or buy at the time, as I have mix of different bits and pieces. All the rear panels are wrong, Home made RS style door panels, no pockets, etc... He also used one sport seat and one standard seat. My car came with standard seats only.

The seats also suffered and this brings me to my question of the day, as I intend to bring the interior back to beige, but would like to do it right.

It seems that the seat rails which are on my car are from on earlier version, They are shorter than the ones on the 73 and do not bolt in the standard fixing holes. The PO used some kind of helicoil to fix them in place on the front. Can someone identify from which model these are. They are also painted black, and from what I have seen, in 73 they should be silver coloured.

Can someone also help identify the base in the above seat. It is not a 73 base as it does not have the double locker. I read somewhere that the double locker was introduced in September 1972, my car was delivered on the 1st of September, so I guess the seat and base could be used as it is borderline with the introduction of the double locker?

Picture of the sport seat below :

Below is the standard seat. Any idea what model this is from? it is installed on the same rails.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you

The standard seat is from a 69 or 70. The seat belt buckle is from the mid 80s.

    Thanks Jim.

I noticed that the seat belt buckle had a 928 part number. You don't happen to know the part number for a 1973 belt buckle by any chance?

Jean-Luc, this car appears to be LHD. So it was not originally sold in South Africa? Do you know where it was delivered originally? What is the full paint code on the badge please.

    Hi Dave,

Indeed, the car is LHD and was initially delivered to the USA.

I have posted more information on the car on the link below. Have a look...

Ok,so the rails are apparently from a later SC model. I have managed to get hold of the correct rails for both seats from my Porsche guy.

Also swopped him my early seat for the correct seat, so things are moving forward.

    Thanks everyone.

Base appears to be the correct base for the sport seat you have, pre double locker, correct for Sept 72 production 73S

Your tilt frame is single locker, '69-early '72..but the spring/lever mechanism has been removed.

This frame originally mounted to a pair of silver (real cadmium!) plated slide rails. The rails are generic between standard and Recaro Sport seats, so they should be easy to find. The hard part will be finding the lever and spring that was removed form the frame.

It appears as though the Sport seat has been recovered as the corduroy wale is longitudinal...original was oriented horizontally. The vinyl looks to be the domestic version of the '73 "dull" stuff the factory used back then.

The round head Phillips screws in the top half of your recliner are generic 8mm and the heads are too big. The bottoms appear correct with smaller heads. Recaro used a weird 8mm screw with a smaller 6mm screw size head that are no longer available and un-obtainium. Many upholstery shops will thread-sert the frames and use a 6mm round head machine screw which has the correct head size. If you remove one of your bottom screws...it may be the correct 8mm with small head or a repair job with 6mm screws.

Those black sliders I believe came out of a later 911....I had a set left over after I installed aftermarket Recaros in my '78 SC back in the day....those are either factory or match what I purchased with the Recaros and didn't use!

You're missing the C clip on the pin of the hinge opposite the recliner. There was also a thin black plastic washer on the pin between the vinyl and the bracket to protect the vinyl.
