Oil pressure sender, VDO or Porsche?

    Hi.
I'm looking to buy a 150 PSI oil pressure sender for my '69 911 engine. I've looked at Porsche's (901-741-551-02/$140) and VDO's (360015/$45). They both look very similar, same operating pressure, same threads, and perhaps they are made by the same company. The price difference is large enough between the two for me to consider using the VDO unit in a non-concours car. I'm looking for your opinions, from those who has used either or both, on how well the VDO unit has worked for you and how long did it last? Thanks in advance for your inputs. Andy

Im going to guess that the Porsche sender has straight machine threads, to be used with a seal ring and the VDO has pipe threads among other possible differences. Gled

I've searched the archive and came across a thread indicated that the Porsche supplied senders also have M10 X 1.0 tapered threads and needed to go over with a straight thread die to make them work well.

Every Porsche sender I've bought, 4 in the last couple of years, have straight machine threads.

Thanks. That's a good reason enough for me to stay with Porsche's unit.

The Porsche unit is made by VDO. It has a Porsche part number and comes in a Porsche bag, but when you take it out, it says VDO on the side. Just be certain that you get a) the 10 bar version and b) the M10x1.0 version, as there are others that have 1/8" NPT threads that will destroy the bushing that threads into the case.

VDO 360-015 should do it, $38.25 vs. $112 for a part that says 901 741 551 02 that is the same thing.
