    Bosch black coils

    Guys,

    I have a Spanish black coil p/n 0 221 121 001 (025 Bosch).
The markings also on the bottom are -

    746 - then a 'y' at an angle then - 965 in an oval

Can anyone give me a ballpark date of manufacture ?

    TIA,
    Dennis
1970 914-6 - materialised from the 'Lotto' garage into reality
    1971 2.2 911 S - now back in the UK - sob!
1975 Carrera Targa (ROW) - missed.
One of us is fast becoming a valuable antique.

i am not sure whether 746 is the date code or 965
IF it is 965 it would be May 1999 but the 746 would be june 1987

i have 2 black coils sitting here in my study and i could not find a date code between them!

    EDIT
I just checked the spare one in my car (me paranoid about not having a working black coil? No never )
It has similar markings to yours
Mine is 066 and 965 in the oval
from that (and looking again at the spares in my drawer) the 746 is your date code - June 1987

my spare in the car 066 is June 1990 and the two in the drawer 025 and 031 are may 1970 and November 1970

a 140 date code is strange to say the least........
Bosch have a code with a separate number for each month - i have a copy of numbers from jan 1964 to december 2015 (with the numbers past 2010 being speculative based on decoding the series) - which i think was posted on this board at some time. the 3 number code is year, decade, month with the 1960's being 0, 1970's being 2 1980's being 4 1990's 6 etc
140 does not seem to be in the series as there is no number with a middle number that is even and a last number 0 in the entire table - ie jan is 1 and october is 0 BUT with the next up odd number ie like 10 ) 1 , 4 corresponds to first year of the 1980's but october 1981 is 150 on this decoder and jan is 141 with december 1980 being 052

therefore IF your number is 140 either the decoder is wrong or something else is

WOW, thanks Sully... That's a pretty cool chart....

    For my April build '73:
According to the chart I put on a #243 Mar. '82 replacement (at the 2003 rebuild because looked better) and have my original #322 Feb. '73 as the spare I keep in the car....
