how early is early 65 sunroof coupe?

i have seen some talk on this subject before i have a 65 sunroof coupe # 301274 is this one of the early sunroof cars made
looks to be a beige in color with the wabasto heater
from what i have found on this board is that #301274 was the 39 car built in early January 1965 and may have been the first sunroof coupe made by Porsche??
i also have heard that someone else installed sunroofs for Porsche??

There are many more sunroof coupe before 301274 or is it 301275 as in your signature. The Kardex for 301275 shows an invoice date of 1965 05 25, so 301274 should not be much different. Yes, a dealer of other shops could install a Golde sunroof; factory installation is probably different though. Can you post a photo of your paint badge please. What engine & transmission #'s are installed?

    GregK1,

"Barbarossa" was the nick name the workers gave the 7th prototype. It's serial number is 13 327 and it was made in 1963, two years prior to your car. It's the coupe prototype that has the sunroof that flows forward.

There are sunroofs on cars made in 1964, the Golde (prototype) with the manual center bump and a pop up bar holding a rubber fin shape, as per it's kardex. A photo of it is shown on the other sunroof thread from a couple of years ago. (Note the cars six center panel seats in houndstooth - only on cars up till about car #301 000).

Barbarossa is in post #5 and the 1964 car is in post #15.

If you get a chance to read Tobias Aichele's book "Porsche 911 - Forever Young" there is some information on pages 48 and 50 (English Edition) that talks about
the August 1964 deadline to finish design of the new car so it could get into production but because of three items - one being the sunroof- the file was held open.
The project leader Wolfgang Eyb stopped the sunroofs design/development because of concerns. Harald Wagner, sales chief, got it put back in the program but not till June 1965.

It is not clear if the June 1965 was when a customer could order that item or if that was when the sunroof was officially delivered.

    The two 1964 cars that have sunroofs were one off's. A mid-november car was Ferry Porsche's 300 049 and the other was a mid-december car 300 18x.
There may be other cars made prior to yours with sunroofs but the hold back until the June accessory release does not allow for many cars to have that feature.

Is your car 301 274 a very early one to have one - most definitely. But your going to have to go to the factory - ask for permission to view over 1000 documents - and do a hand count to verify what place it's in.

Even though this thread is rather old, I might be able to provide some more information on the sunroof option, especially on chassis # 301 275.
The car has been originally ordered without sunroof on December, 27th 1964. The desired delivery date for the car was Jan 15th, 1965. A couple of days after ordering the order has been altered so the car would be delivered with a factory sunroof installed. Therefore the delivery date was postponed to April/ May 1965. So it seems as if sunroofs where not available until that point in time. The car was registered first on May, 24th 1965.

I have probably what is the earliest accessories list for 911, dated 12/64 and for US market.
Although very complete, it does not offer a sunroof.

I also have a another accessories / price list, dated February 1965, Swiss/Euro market and it does not offer any sunroof.

Agree, sunroof probably introduced in Spring 1965, when also the 912 was available.
In general, Sunroof was the most expensive option and probably an equally complicated accessories structure to add within the manufacturing process.
