Thread: Special early 1964 features on 1965 cars

  1. #321
Hi Richard, the carpet attachment referred to in April 21 1965 letter is the change to leather straps holding the carpet at the top of the trunk/front compartment, to the same attachment method as holding the floor carpets under the dash.

Good for you - finding this letter and posting it. Each piece of info is very helpful.

On my car (300426) there is no "M8" (what ever that means) on the A-column.
Does anybody know, when they began with the "M8"-Stamping?

When accompanied with such a letter, including the Germenglish, it would be a great ASSET in my view. Top original I'd say. Obviously worth 3-400$ more than without it

Good point! My 300700 does not have this. The 301379 I need to check. I also scanned my archives and found all cars that have pictures of this area from up to 1382 not showing it. First car that shows it in my archives is 1620.
I added this feature in overview below.

Would be great if you would want to fill in other features for your car as well. Can send you a extract which is easy to fill if you send me yr e-mail by PM. Cheers, Jacques

    Turbine930:

the M8 stamped into the hinge panel MAY have changed to the M8 hinge bolts. Some time during the 1965 cars - does anyone have a change date or serial number range for the panel stamping change?

Did this coincide to when the bolt heads changed from the 13mm (across the flats) to the cheese head bolts at cars 301 554 to 301 555, ( May June 1965) ??

Not sure what you mean with cheese head bolts. According to our above overview, the allen bolts were introduced between 1421 and 1620. If that is yr hypothesis, indeed, the 2 changes could very well have been in sync! Where do you derive the very precise 1554-1555 from?

Yes the parts book is our friend, it uses the term Cheese Head for the allen heads. And they note the serial numbers for the change.... ;-) and with our member derived listing for the 1965/1966 model year change we can see the month of the change. Your listing for appropriate parts by date of application is wonderful - if far exceeds any other method, and it is becoming a companion to the parts book. Good job.
