    901 Detent

I've had this car for a year now and always assumed there was something broken in the shifter linkage. It's a 901 transmission and the gear shift lever never came back to center from 4/5 to 2/3. It does detent back to 2/3 from R/1. I pulled the engine for some work this winter and today got around to pulling the shifter lever. I see both springs acting in the same way and do not see how the lever would center back to 2/3 from 4/5. Is it actually built this way or am I missing something?

It doesn't center back from the 4/5th gate, only the 1st/rev as you mention.

Thanks Ed, feel stupid now but on the other hand that's another job out of the job jar.

Is there a simple mod to keep the 901 and add a detent from 4/5 back to 2/3

I've never used one, but I think the J West shifter does that. If not them, one of the aftermarket shifters, do a search, there have been many comments pro and con.
