A subdivision is an artifact of the current market trying to make distinctions where the factory did not.

Raj, you answered the question yourself in the for sale Carparc thread, with perhaps a few more distinctions:

Prototypes (only one known as far as I know)
    901 cars (+/- first 80 produced 1964 cars)
'64 production year cars - all known by the 232 Registry
'65 cars with 1964 features such as flat slam panel, in-door gas lid release etc. (up to car number 300272 if I'm not mistaking)
    first 1000 1965 cars
    model year '65
    '65 built model year '66
    model year '66

    Prototypes:
13 very well documented (VIN 13xxx, color, etc), more prototypes have been loosely described by Aichele.
2 still exists today, both are located in the US ("Barbarossa" No.7 of the "13xxx group", 901 Convertible prototyp shown at Pebble Beach 2013)

Sure, I meant one was still known to exist, but I forgot about the convertible.

I answered the question 'how should 1965 model year be sub-divided', but you're right.

Who owns a car made on the last Monday of a model year?

Are Friday made cars more valuable?

It's the first cars on a Monday morning that really matter.
